The region around Grainau offers something for everyone. Whether you prefer to walk or climb – there are countless possibilities. The trails and climbing routes around the Zugspitze are well developed. What about a trip to the Neuneralm over the Höhenrain, or along the Kramer plateau towards the Pflegersee? Hikers like to use one of our seven cable cars. Ride up and walk back to the valley, or vice versa. More demanding trails lead to Stepbergalm and from there to Mount Kramer and the Ziegspitze. If you already have sufficient experience in the mountains, then the Alpspitze, Zugspitze and many other beautiful mountains attract for climbing tours.

A highlight is the vast Partnachklamm and Höllentalklamm – here you can see roaring water crashing through a narrow gorge. An experience you will never forget. However, beyond the hiking trails there is much to discover.

The many lakes around Grainau are worth a visit. A pleasant walk leads to the emerald Badersee. And the Eibsee is just around the corner, easily accessible by foot or by mountain bike. What about swimming in summer? Have a look at the indoor and outdoor swimming pool of Grainau. Here you have a magnificent mountain view and a perfect recreation.

By the way: A world-famous historic site rises not far from Grainau. Kloster Ettal with its beautiful Rococo church is not only impressive from the outside. You should definitely take a look into it. Not far from here you will also find castle Linderhof which was build by Bavarian King Ludwig II.

In winter, the Alps are turning into a stunning snowscape. Now you can explore long and well groomed trails. Even a trip to the wintry Zugspitze and the associated glacier ski area is worthwhile. The Zugspitze offers snow from November to early May. Skiing lessons and ski rental for beginners up to experts will be available until April.

In addition to the Zugspitze, there is much to discover. If you want to leave the car, it’s best to use the Zugspitz Railway. It also makes stop at Classic Ski Resort – an area around Mount Alpspitze and Kreuzeck. Who does not know the world famous Kandahar, where the world’s best professionals show their skills every year. Many modern lifts and cable cars do connect this vast ski area. From beginners to experts – everyone finds the right track. Cosy cabins in a magnificent mountain backdrop make every ski day an unforgettable experience. And if you are looking for a snack, have a look over at the Hochalm. With good weather you can enjoy the sun even in winter.

You might try snowshoeing through the pristine winter wonderland. You can do this alone or try one of the free guided tours. Do not worry, snowshoeing is not only healthy, it is also a lot of fun and an intensive nature experience. There are also other athletic opportunities waiting for you, such as skating, curling and sledding.
